Itme Motivation Show Numbers Don’t Reflect Show’s Value

Attendance at the 2008 itme Motivation Show, held last week at Chicago’s McCormick Place, saw the effects of the nervousness the entire US nation is feeling over the failure of some of the country’s largest financial institutions, and continuing stock market falls.

Although pre-registration numbers had been an increase on 2007 numbers, said Pete Erickson, managing director, Hall-Erickson Inc., the actual verified attendance was down from 2007.

Attendees as usual did include decision-makers and influences from tens of thousands of companies from the U.S. Corporate managers, engineers, manufacturers, quality controllers, purchasers, production supervisors, research/development, sales and marketing, food and beverage, dairy/meat/poultry/seafood, pharmaceutical/medical, chemical/household, computer, electronics, components, converting, volume printing, toys and games, aerospace, entertainment, private label, furniture/fixtures, wineries, confectionery, bakery, snack food, etc. - and we could go on!

Employers are invited to combat such de-motivators by such measures as job enrichment increases a job’s range and depth, which refers to the number of activities and the autonomy, responsibility, discretion, and control. Organizations desiring to improve employee motivation need a system in place that consistently rewards employee achievements. I’m always surprised how few organizations have such a system. Results of the survey show that the recession hit economy has had more of an impact on travel incentive programs than on merchandise non-cash programs. Some 81% of survey respondents say that the down economy is having a negative impact on their ability to plan travel incentives.

At The Motivation Show staffers and crowd gatherers asked guests to fill out lead forms, containing questions about the attendees. One company that did this, reportedly left with only about 200 leads but they have been proving to be 200 really good, high quality leads. So far, they day that they have yet to call upon a bad one.

Motivation techniques are essential for success in anything. Any goal or aspiration requires a lot of effort and the ability to overcome adversity. Motivation techniques are essentially the internal fuels that keep our thoughts on the conscious level so that we do not allow unconscious thoughts from years of previous negative conditioning to take over. This is why changing actions or behaviors is so difficult. Motivation techniques are appropriate for marginal and peak performers.
